Daniel Benák, PhD. of IPHYS received the 2026 Otto Wichterle Award on June 24. The award was presented by the President of the Czech Academy of Sciences, Radomír Pánek. The Otto Wichterle Award is granted annually to outstanding early-career researchers who achieve excellent results in their fields and demonstrate significant potential for further development.
Daniel Benák’s research in the Laboratory of Developmental Cardiology focuses on the physiology and pathophysiology of the cardiovascular system. In particular, he studies epitranscriptomics—the field investigating chemical modifications of RNA and their impact on cellular function. His work primarily addresses diabetes and its cardiovascular complications, with the aim of identifying new biomarkers that could contribute to earlier diagnosis and the advancement of personalized medicine. We warmly congratulate him on this significant achievement.
