The 10th annual Science Fair 2026 attracted tens of thousands of visitors. At the IPHYS booth, visitors of all ages could explore how the human body works – from individual cells to the whole organism – and how modern science helps uncover the causes of serious diseases.
Interactive activities proved especially popular, with visitors receiving attractive rewards for completing them. Over the three days of the fair, (not only) children enthusiastically created and took home more than 450 models of eukaryotic cells. Using fluorescence microscopy, curious visitors could also see what cell nuclei look like, as well as the organelles essential for cellular respiration – mitochondria.
Both younger and older visitors enjoyed scientific crosswords, puzzles, and quizzes focused on human metabolism and brain function. They tested their knowledge of biological clocks and explored the human body using an application that allowed them to virtually look beneath the skin. Visitors also tried measuring blood glucose levels, blood pressure, and blood oxygenation. For a moment, they could become real scientists or doctors by taking part in an interactive task in which they decided whether samples came from healthy cells or cells affected by mitochondrial disease. Demonstrations of tissue replacements and artificial joints were also very popular.
