Cognitive and behavioural consequences of epilepsy

Incidence of behavioral abnormities, cognitive impairment and mental problems is higher in some forms of epilepsy than in healthy population.

While some antiepileptic drugs deteriorate certain brain functions, others can prevent mental problems. Our research aims to search possible structural and cellular associations between epilepsy and its co-morbidities. We also study behavioral alterations after epileptic seizures and analyze involvement of individual neurotransmitter systems in these changes.
