Lecture "Startup laboratory of pancreatic islet research"

Public lecture of the candidate for the head of the new laboratory in the frame of the competition "Career Development Programme for Scientific Staff at IPHYS"

The presentation will introduce the new start-up laboratory of pancreatic islet research. The laboratory will study the physiology and pathophysiology of pancreatic beta cells, focusing on the role of redox and lipid signaling in glucose sensing. Redox and lipid signals resulting from glucose degradation are involved in maintaining beta cell functionality, particularly with respect to insulin secretion. Their destabilization by chronically elevated glucose levels may lead to the development of type 2 diabetes. We plan to uncover the novel targets of redox and lipid signaling under physiological and pathological conditions.
