Vevo 3100: The Short Story of a High-tech Upgrade

Jaroslav Hrdlička, Laboratory of Developmental Cardiology, IPHYS

In 2022, Laboratory 80 was equiped with an high-tech ultrasonographic machine VisualSonic Vevo 3100. This short presentation will demonstrate its abilities actual and possible utilization and up-to-date benefits considering current trends in basic cardiovascular research.

Cardioprotection: the role of HIF-1α and mitochondria

Petra Alánová, Laboratory of Developmental Cardiology, IPHYS

Cardiovascular diseases are the most common cause of death and disability worldwide. Among those, ischemic heart disease is the number one. Adaptation to chronic hypoxia (CH) is known to protect the heart against acute ischemia/reperfusion (I/R) injury. Hypoxia-inducible factor 1 (HIF-1) is a critical oxygen-sensitive transcription factor that mediates the body’s adaptive responses to hypoxia through the activation of target genes that are involved in many different cellular processes. Mitochondria are a key part of cell signaling network, responsible for oxygen handling in cardiac myocytes. It is not surprising that CH-induced adaptive changes affect also mitochondrial function. Therefore, our research is focused on the connection between HIF-1α and mitochondrial function in cardioprotection induced by C
