Using advanced genetically encoded biosensors and live-cell imaging approaches, her research visualises redox processes in real time, providing new insights into the mechanisms that link cellular metabolism, signalling, and disease.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Biography: <\/strong>Leticia Prates Roma, PhD is a tenured W2 Professor of Biophysics at Saarland University in Germany. Born in Rio do Sul, Brazil, she studied pharmacy at the State University of Paran\u00e1 and then completed both her master\u2019s degree and PhD in Molecular Biology\/Physiology at the University of Campinas under Prof. Kleber Araujo de Souza.<\/p>\n<p>Her postdoctoral training took her through leading redox and islet biology laboratories in three countries: with Prof. Jean-Christophe Jonas at the Catholic University of Louvain, Belgium; Prof. Angelo Carpinelli at the University of S\u00e3o Paulo; Prof. Tobias Dick at the German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ) in Heidelberg; and Prof. Christoph Maack in Cardiology at Saarland University. She was appointed Junior Professor of Biophysics at Saarland University in 2017 and promoted to tenured Professor in 2023.<\/p>\n<p>Her research focuses on redox biology and oxidative stress in pancreatic islets and beyond, with particular interest in NADPH oxidases, mitochondrial dysfunction, and the use of genetically encoded biosensors to follow subcellular redox state<em> in vivo<\/em>. Her work appears in journals including <em>Cell<\/em>, <em>Circulation<\/em>, <em>Nature Communications<\/em>, <em>Diabetologia<\/em>, <em>Science Signaling<\/em> and <em>Redox Biology<\/em>.
