Diabetes is associated with tissue hypoxia but also leads to deregulation of the Hif-1\u03b1 signaling pathway. We study the role of Hif-1\u03b1 in metabolic and functional changes induced by experimental diabetes, their impact on myocardial ischemic tolerance and the development of cardiomyopathy and heart failure.
