Mechanisms of gliflozins action in the treatment of non-diabetic experimental models of cardiovascular diseases

Gliflozins are a new class of antidiabetic drugs. Although they exert their hypoglycaemic effects through the inhibition of the sodium-glucose transporter promoting glucose and sodium excretion, their potential goes far beyond. They lower blood pressure and body weight, but they are also renoprotective, cardioprotective and hepatoprotective. There are numerous experimental data on their effects under diabetic conditions but the experiments in non-diabetic animals are relatively scarce. The aim of the PhD project will be to study molecular mechanisms of actions of these new antidiabetic drugs under non-diabetic conditions.
