Fluorescence probes for the study of cell membranes

The proper lipid composition and function of cell membranes is essential for the life of all organisms. Fluorescence probes are useful tools for estimating membrane fluidity, membrane potential generated by ion transport across the membrane, molecular interactions within the membrane, etc. The student will be involved in the development of new fluorescence spectroscopy and microscopy techniques. We have a collection of yeast (used as a model organism) with different cell membrane properties.
