Treadmills for forced physical activity can be integrated into the indirect calorimetry system. This combination allows the measurement of energy expenditure and respiratory quotient during defined physical aktivity in high time resolution (up to 10 s) and in a wide range of set ambient temperatures (6-35 °C). Two treadmills are available and can be used simultaneously.
The treadmills allow the parameters for different physical loads on the mouse to be set (adjustable speed, speed changes within a single protocol, treadmill incline). During measurement, either a mechanical barrier at the end of the treadmill or electric shocks can be used to maximally stimulate the mouse.

Before submitting the Experiment Project, it is highly recommended to discuss the design of the experiments with the service department staff. If animals are to be measured repeatedly during the experiment, they may be housed in an on-site animal facility for the duration of the experiment.
Evaluation of the respiratory quotient and energy expenditure at selected intervals (10 seconds – 10 minutes) are included in the service – see price list.
