The TSE Phenomaster indirect calorimetry system uses measurements in a closed chamber through which a constant amount of air flows and where it is possible to set the ambient temperature in the range of 6-35 °C as well as various light-dark modes. The animal is placed in a special cage in which oxygen consumption and carbon dioxide production can be detected. The difference in gas concentration serves as the basis for calculating the respiratory quotient and energy expenditure. The device also allows continuous monitoring of food intake and physical activity. The system also includes an adaptation for measurements on rats. The device can measure 16 mice or 8 rats simultaneously.
Unique features:
– Designed to measure energy metabolism, food intake, and animal activity. All data is integrated into the output data file.
– High-precision time resolution (5 min) in the measuring chamber over a wide temperature range (6–35 °C).
– User-friendly and easy-to-use interface that allows full control of the system and data visualization.
– The animal can be acclimatized to the environment, minimizing the effect of stress on the measured values.
The device can only be reserved if you have this method included in a valid Project of Experiments. Sample text for the Project of Experiments is HERE (link to text). Prior to the submission of a Project of Experiments, it is recommended that the design of experiments be discussed with the service department staff. If animals are to be measured repeatedly during the experiment, they may be housed in an on-site animal facility for the duration of the experiment.
Evaluation of respiratory quotient, energy expenditure, physical activity, and food intake at 5-minute, 12-hour, and 24-hour intervals are included in the service – link to price list.
