Our research focuses on gastrointestinal (GI) physiology and pathophysiology and on understanding how complex GI functions are influenced by hormonal (corticosteroids) and environmental factors (stress, food, microbiota). Our work uses various strains of rats and mice, including germ-free animals and animal models of colitis and acute and chronic stress. In particular, we address the questions:
- Host - gut microbiome interactions in neuroendocrine regulatory pathways
- Regulation of intestinal transport
- Local metabolism of glucocorticoids
