The DXA scanner is designed to measure body composition and bone parameters. The device is suitable for both small and large laboratory animals. X-ray radiation is shielded to ensure that the experiment is safe for the operator. The measurement is performed under light isoflurane anesthesia, which lasts 10-20 minutes per mouse. In addition to a 2D X-ray image, the output can include an evaluation of the total amount of body fat, lean body mass, bone density, and mineral content, as well as an evaluation of these parameters in only a specific part of the body (e.g., density and mineral content parameters in only the femur).
Unique features:
– The device allows for simple and relatively quick evaluation of body composition and bone parameters using dual X-ray imaging.
The device can only be reserved if you have this method included in a valid Project of Experiments. Sample text for the Project of Experiments is HERE (link to text). Before submitting the Project of Experiments, it is highly recommended to discuss the design of the experiments with the service department staff. If animals are to be scanned repeatedly during the experiment, they can be housed in the on-site animal facility for the duration of the experiment.
Evaluation of overall body composition is included in the service – Link to price list.
