This presentation will focus on the strategy how to more effectively prevent cardiovascular events in women based on the timing of the intervention. The most appropriate time seems to be period around menopause, menopausal transition. First encouraging data are from hormonal substitution therapy in postmenopausal women. In addition, data revealing the role of traditional cardiovascular risk factors in this respect are emerging. Data from human but also experimental studies will be presented.
