Project content:
Chronic pain, particularly neuropathic pain, represents a significant challenge to healthcare systems worldwide. This project aims to investigate the role of Macrophage Migration Inhibitory Factor (MIF) in the neuro-inflammatory mechanisms underlying neuropathic pain. By comparing the pathological activation of mouse and human nociceptors, the research seeks to identify cross-species differences and improve the translatability of preclinical findings to clinical practice. The project will utilize advanced electrophysiological techniques to study MIF-induced modulation in mouse dorsal root ganglia (DRG), human DRG, and human induced pluripotent stem cell-derived nociceptors (hiPSC-DNs). The findings are expected to contribute to the development of more effective pain management therapies. Key objectives include establishing of electrophysiological recording methodologies, examining MIF’s modulatory effects under neuropathic conditions, and disseminating results through high-impact publication and international conferences. The project also emphasizes collaboration with international experts and public outreach to enhance scientific knowledge and inspire future researchers. This project is funding from the European Union’s Horizon Europe under the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Action – Co-funding of regional, National and International Programmes (COFUND) grant agreement No.101081195.
