Eminent Swedish scientists lectured at the Institute of Physiology of the CAS on heat generation and energy metabolism in mice and humans

On 26 May 2025, two lectures by prominent Swedish scientists from Stockholm University – Prof. Barbara Cannon and Prof. Jan Nedergaard – were held at the Institute of Physiology of the CAS.

Prof. Barbara Cannon, former President of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences (2012-2015) and also Chairman of the Trustees of the Nobel Foundation (2008-2011), in her lecture “Thermoneutrality and thermogenesis” focused on the influence of environmental temperature on the energy balance of the organism and thermogenic mechanisms. This was followed by Prof. Jan Nedergaard’s lecture “Thermogenesis: by which means?”, focusing on the molecular and cellular mechanisms by which the body produces heat.

The lectures were well attended, not only by scientists from IPHYS CAS, but also by experts in the field of metabolism and thermoregulation from other research institutions.
