IPHYS Retreat 2025: Science, Dialogue, Inspiration

On 19-21 May 2025, the Institute of Physiology of the CAS held a retreat in Špindlerův Mlýn. The event was attended by guests, researchers, PhD students and also service staff. The meeting offered a varied professional programme and space for informal meetings.

The scientific programme included, among others, the presentation of two newly established laboratories – the Laboratory of Neuroepigenetics, headed by Lalit Kaurani, and the Laboratory of Cardiometabolism, headed by Lukáš Chmátal. The invitation was also accepted by two guests with their inspiring lectures: Přemysl Jiruška (Institute of Physiology, 2nd Faculty of Medicine, Charles University) – Neurodevelopmental disorders: from genes to mechanisms and disease-modifying therapies and Jan Kříž (IKEM) – Pancreatic islet transplantation: why in the era of advanced technology.  The programme also included a lecture by Aleš Stuchlík on the important topic of Mental Health and Wellbeing at Scientific Workplace, which opened the space for an open discussion on the mental wellbeing of workers in science.

Particular attention was paid to the section for Ph.D. students, who presented their research projects and discussed them with colleagues across the Institute. The final day was enriched by a lecture by Michaela Liegertová (Faculty of Science, J. E. Purkyně University), who focused on current issues of the use of artificial intelligence in science and research.
