Barrande Fellowship Awarded to PhD Student from the Laboratory of Cellular Neurophysiology

Congratulations to Fatma Elzahraa S. Abdel Rahman Bekhit – a 2nd year PhD student at the Faculty of Science of Charles University, who is conducting her research at the Institute of Physiology of the CAS, Department of Cellular Neurophysiology, under the supervision of Tereza Smejkalová – on winning the prestigious Barrande Fellowship 2025 for a research internship in France!

Fatma will investigate the role of NMDA receptors in sensory perception mechanisms, using optogenetics and patch-clamp electrophysiology in acute brain slices. Her internship will be supervised by Dr. Mario Carta at the Interdisciplinary Institute for Neuroscience (IINS) in Bordeaux.

The official award ceremony took place on June 3, 2025, at the French Embassy in Prague.
