With deep sorrow we announce that on August 9, died at age 93, RNDr. Ivo Syrový, DrSc.
Ivo was for many years a scientist at the Institute of Physiology of the CAS, where he worked on a wide range of research topics. After joining the Institute, he began to study skeletal muscle and the effect of denervation or immobilization on muscle function in the laboratory of Arnošt Gutmann. During this period he also published a scientific paper on metabolic changes in skeletal muscle during development in the prestigious journal Nature in collaboration with A. Gutmann. As Head of the Scientific Laboratory of Fibrillar Proteins, he then continued to work on skeletal muscle with a focus on protein metabolism and glycosylation. Later he was also a member of the Laboratory of Adipose Tissue Biology, where he was involved in research on adipose tissue cell metabolism and its importance for energy homeostasis.
